This is a series where I just talk about my week. I wanted to write more, and I realize my biggest barrier to entry is coming up with a good topic to write about. "This Week" is my way of keeping up with my writing goals while doing a bit of self-reflecting.
This week, my friend from Australia came to visit. A couple friends and I gathered to welcome her. At the start of the night, we finished the Frieren season. Every time we watched, I felt the desire to connect with friends, family, and nature. It's like a warm bowl of chicken soup, nurturing for the soul.
Afterwards, we had dinner together at Rintaro, her favorite Japanese spot in SF. We went with the set menu. Every dish was solid, but our favorite is always the dessert: their hojicha pannacotta. Coming out of dinner, I wished I had more opportunities to chat. In the moment, I often struggle to find the right topic to connect on. Luckily, we plan to hang out more this weekend (later today for me).
In the middle of the week, we got our garbage disposal fixed. The workers were communicative and replaced it within a couple hours. It feels good to have that monkey off our back.
On Friday, we visited another friend at their new house. Although they said it was built in 1920, the exterior looked fresh. Arched design elements throughout gave everything a sense of intentionality. I was impressed by how quickly they had settled in.
Our friends served us Indian food for dinner. Between the food and the conversation, everything felt effortless. They have a knack for hosting, something I hope to learn myself.
On Saturday, we hung out with the same friends at The Pots in SF. It was their first time, and I think they enjoyed it. I like loading up on a ton of vegetables and having the soup flavor them. Afterwards, we went to a tiki bar and talked about life, future prospects, and a bit of AI 😂.
Overall, it was a good week. Although I was tired from all the social interactions, looking back, they were well worth it. I did a good job knowing when to take a break; I get cranky if I get socialed out. I realize my social gauge is a resource I want to utilize better. Rather than keeping it full all the time, I should proactively try to spend it while I am rested.
