The New Year always feels like a natural checkpoint for reflection. I don't believe in waiting for January 1st to make changes, but there's something about this time that helps crystallize my thoughts.
Relationships
There's a pattern: when I dive deep into work and projects, I lose touch with people who matter to me. For years, proximity did the heavy lifting - running into people at work, living nearby, or sharing common spaces. But as people move and lives change, that's not enough anymore.
This year, I'm committing to being more intentional about these connections. Whether it's scheduling regular catch-ups, sending a quick message, or making the effort to visit, I want to prioritize the relationships that mean the most to me.
Embracing Change in My Craft
AI is becoming real, fast. Part of me resists this shift, but adaptation isn't just beneficial; it's necessary. I used to get caught up in traditional notions of "craftsmanship," sometimes at the expense of progress. Now I'm ready to experiment with new approaches and tools. My goal isn't to abandon what I've learned but to augment it and become a more versatile builder.
This year, I'm leaning into that discomfort.
Broadening My Perspective
I've been living in a self-made bubble. This year, I want to develop a richer understanding of the world beyond my usual sphere: following current events, exploring diverse media, engaging in conversations that push me out of my comfort zone.
This also ties back to relationships; learning from others' experiences and viewpoints will help me see the world through a wider lens.
These aren't groundbreaking goals. I'm not expecting to wake up tomorrow as a completely different person; just taking small steps in the direction I set for myself.
